Harpenden

Situated in a valley of the Chiltern Hills, the prosperous north Hertfordshire town of Harpenden lies approximately 2 miles from Meadow View. Whilst maintaining the village feel, it has a thriving commercial centre with branded and independent shops, wine bars and restaurants along its Victorian High Street

Here history and modern day living combine in a perfect blend. Harpenden was first recorded in an eleventh century deed in which Edward the Confessor granted an estate to Westminster Abbey. The church of St Nicholas was a Chapel-of-Ease from about 1217 before a larger building replaced it in 1861. The oldest of the ring of 8 bells dates from 1612.

Character and charm exists in abundance along with large areas of common open spaces. Here too is a wide range of leisure facilities including a sports centre and indoor pool. Harpenden is well noted for its schooling in both the state and private sectors, including specialist theatre, music and dance schools.

Harpenden Golf Club, set within a massive parkland of 150 acres, lies only 2 miles from Meadow View. Harpenden Lawn Tennis Club, established in 1906 is one of the leading private tennis clubs in England with outstanding facilities including 17 tennis courts. The cricket club can trace its history back to 1863; it has played on Harpenden Common since that date.
